Kate Irish

Kate Irish was born in Sydney and in 1983 completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney. She attended the School of Colour and Design in 1997-8 and this reignited her interest in art. After studying life drawing at the Ku-ring-Gai Art Centre in Sydney from 1998-2002 she studied mixed media with Annette Pringle from 2003 – 2005. This gave her confidence to successfully exhibit in group and private shows. Her earlier work shows the influence of city scapes versus the human form, and often her paintings included windows which explore the concept of the isolation, which can exist in a large, busy city. She recently travelled to Italy and the shapes and shadows formed by the old buildings have compelled her to paint them. She has concentrated on capturing the sense of history, the light and the beautiful textures of the facades.
