Mark Thiele

Mark Thiele was born in South Australia. In 1998 he qualified with a Batchelor of Arts with Honours (Visual). 1999 - 2000 he worked at the Jam Factory Studio in Adelaide and from 2003 he has been a lecturer of glass at the University of South Australia. Amongst his awards the most prestigious is winning the Ranamok Glass Prize in Sydney in 2002 after being a finalist in 1999 and 2000. He is represented in public and private collections internationally and in Australia, and one of his vessels was acquired by the Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide in 2002. Mark says nature is vast and extraordinary and has inspired him to create works using elements such as line, pattern and rhythm. He sees these works as totems, three dimensional canvases, objects with poise and stature that capture a story and create a bridge connecting us with the land.
